We had a stunning day on Saturday to host our annual Shakespear Snorkel Day. We had 167 keen snorkellers join us in exploring the rocky reef at Army Bay. Whilst out in the water we spotted tāmure/snapper, parore, āhuruhuru/goatfish, starfish, kina, clown nudibranchs and some lucky groups got to see an eagle ray!
Whilst not in the water participants were able to learn more about the amazing marine creatures that live in te moana from our crew members, with our taonga/treasure box being a big hit!
For many participants this was their first experience snorkelling and for some it was their first time in the ocean! We got some lovely feedback from participants about our epic team of volunteers, helping them to feel safe and supported in the water as well as learning more about their big blue backyard.
A huge thank you to the Hibiscus And Bays Local Board The Bobby Stafford-Bush Foundation and Aktive - Auckland Sport & Recreation for funding this event. As always our events would not be possible without our fantastic team of volunteers!
We have a few more Auckland snorkel days left in our season so make sure to book your spot if you are keen to join us out in the water!
