Meet the photographers
Lorna Doogan
Lorna Doogan is a passionate underwater and freshwater photographer based in Aotearoa, whose imagery reveals the hidden beauty and fragility of our moana and awa. Her photography journey began with a compact camera and grew under the mentorship of Daryl Torckler, who taught her the art of over-under split shots and photo processing.
From Galápagos sharks in the Kermadecs to delicate stream life across the motu, Lorna’s work captures the vibrant stories of te taiao. A dedicated kaitiaki and national coordinator for Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust’s Experiencing Marine Reserves and Wai Connection programmes, she weaves photography into environmental education and advocacy.
Her images have featured in national exhibitions including Believe in Tikapa Moana, highlighting the importance of marine protection. Balancing her roles as a mother, educator, and storyteller, Lorna continues to inspire deeper connections with the natural world through her lens.
