I am so grateful to have learned so much from the Experiencing Marine Reserves and Mountains to Sea whanau and they have inspired me to pursue a future in marine science after I leave school - but in the meantime I will keep volunteering when I can, seeking knowledge and enjoying helping others discover and fall in love with the world below the surface.

Steps to becoming a volunteer

Step 1: Complete the Volunteer Application. Within it you will be able to specify what region you are in and what programmes, events and restoration projects you would like to sign up for.

Step 2: Your details will be sent to the region(s) that you're interest in volunteering in. You'll then be sent an information pack to get you started.

Step 3: Check out the essential volunteering resources below and follow us on social media.

Step 4: Come along to an event.

All in all, this has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. If I could suggest anything to anyone, it would be to volunteer for EMR and make sure that you visit this incredible taonga.
