Investing in Aotearoa New Zealand's ecosystems together

Our annual reports highlight the impact of our work, connecting communities with nature through freshwater and marine conservation. Each report showcases achievements in education, restoration, and community engagement, reflecting our mission to inspire stewardship of our unique ecosystems, from mountains to sea. The reports provide transparency, celebrate partnerships, and track progress toward long-term environmental goals.

Annual Report 2024

Over the past year, the Trust engaged 73,000+ people through EMR and WBC, planted 35,000 natives, restored habitats, and supported 193 catchment groups. Despite climate and political challenges, the Trust grows, inspires, and works toward 30% marine protection by 2030.

EMR expanded to 8 regions, 35 snorkel days, 591 projects, 274 schools, and support for Young Blake Expedition.

EMR had 33 snorkel days, 359 projects, 245 schools, and the first night snorkel at Kai Iwi Lakes.

EMR expanded to 8 regions, 31 snorkel days, 773 action projects, and 223 schools in the Poor Knights trip.

Annual Report 2015

Since 2002, EMR has expanded to 8 regions, with a team of 16 coordinators, EMR has guided snorkel experiences for 25312 (30860 including accompanying adults) students in NZ marine reserves (2929 more than last year). The wider community is reached via 326 printed media articles and over 8698 people have been engaged in EMR organised marine conservation events, taking our total number of participants to 41601 Kiwis.

Annual Report 2014

Since 2002, EMR has expanded to be active in 8 regions with a team of 20 coordinators nationwide. EMR has guided snorkel experiences in marine reserves around New Zealand involving 22100 students in NZ marine reserves (2900 more than last year). The wider community is reached via 292 printed media articles and over 6525 people have been engaged in EMR organised marine conservation events, taking our total number of participants to 28217 New Zealanders.

In 2009, EMR reached 1600+ students in Northland and expanded nationally, inspiring youth-led conservation. WBC promoted freshwater care and community planting. Key events included a 1000-person human chain at Whangarei Harbour and widespread community snorkel days. The trust ended the year with a $22,203 surplus and strong community engagement.
