Discover local nightlife by going on a walk with your torch!

You won’t believe the biodiversity of your local stream area at night. On our spotting wishlist are native fish, eels and aquatic macroinvertebrates. While walking we will also discover the beautiful native flora and the insects and spiders that come alive at night.

What to expect copy
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your start time to sign in at the event tent.
You will be lead along the side of the stream, and our guides will share their knowledge of the awa and the creatures that we encounter along the way. Expect to see fish such as kōkopu or bullies, tuna/longfin eels, invertebrates such as kōura or shrimp, and learn about the threats they face, such as invasive species.
Expect to spend up to 1.5 hours on your walk.

There are many hidden treasures in streams that are more likely to be found at night! Encounter critters you may not have known were sharing your local awa with you, and explore their nocturnal world alongside other curious minds.
Age range
If you want meet the nocturnal critters that live in your local stream first-hand, and share the experience with your friends and whānau, then this is for you!
This is a land-based activity and is generally is suitable for tamariki 4 years and older.
