This March, we were stoked to welcome 150 locals to Kai Iwi Lakes to enjoy the lakes and their natural features up close.

The event brought together whānau, community members, and local organisations for a day

focused on promoting safe practices on and around the water. The weather was perfect, making the day more memorable and encouraging strong community participation throughout the event.

With strong attendance, perfect conditions, and valuable contributions from partner organisations, the event became a fantastic example of community working together in responsible enjoyment of our natural spaces.

Members of Northland Regional Council (NRC) were also present on the day, promoting education of the Check, Clean, Dry campaign. Their presence helped raise important awareness about preventing the spread of freshwater pests and protecting the unique environment of Kai Iwi Lakes.

Ngā mihi nui to Water Safety New Zealand for funding this year’s event and supporting the kaupapa.

Event organisers would like to extend their sincere thanks to Kaipara District Council (KDC) and the Taharoa Governance Committee for their continued support of this mahi year after year. Their ongoing commitment plays a vital role in ensuring the event’s success, and in supporting water safety and environmental stewardship within the community.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank the volunteers who generously gave up their time on the day to help support the event. We quite literally can not do this event without them — their contribution helped ensure everything ran smoothly and made the day enjoyable for everyone involved.
