Paddle Days

Explore by paddleboarding, kayaking & local ecology session

Our guided stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) or kayaking days are designed to introduce locals to these forms of exploring their wai. We incorporate a focus on environmental education, such as learning about the ecology of the area or conducting a clean-up along a coastline. You can expect to spend up to 1.5 hours on the water.

Prior experience and a minimum age is sometimes required for these activities — if you're not sure, check the event description online (Eventbrite). All children 15 years and under must be accompanied by an adult on the water.

What to expect

What to expect copy

Please arrive at least 15mins prior and check in at the tent if you are kayaking. If you are running late, please call the event organiser via the number provided on the event page (Eventbrite).

🚣 On the Awa

Explore the wai by kayak or SUP. Learn about waterway protection, observe local wildlife, and help keep the coastline or awa clean by removing rubbish.

🌿 On the Land

After your paddle, spend some time with Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust separating trash from treasure (rubbish and recycling).

🌞 Weather call

Sea conditions permitting - we will run with light rain. A final weather call will be made the afternoon prior to the event. Cancellation due to weather will be communicated via email or Eventbrite.

Why people enjoy it

For many participants, our kayak and SUP days are their first experience doing these activities. We design these events with this mind, making sure everyone has a great time, feel looked after and safe, and come away with a fresh connection to their local wai and are inspired to protect it.

Age range

If you're curious about what life is like on your local awa or coastline, and are able to commit to a full time slot on the water, then this is for you!

Please note that the maximum weight for the sea kayaks is 120kg per person. Children younger than 10 will not be able to participate in the kayaking activity. All children 15 years and under must be accompanied by a confident adult on the water. Expect to spend up to 1.5hrs kayaking.
