Shortjaw - Kōkopu
Galaxias postvectis

The Shortjaw Kōkopu is a rare, secretive native fish with a receding lower jaw and dark splotches behind the gills. Found in healthy, bush-covered streams, they feed on insects and hide among boulders. A migratory galaxiid, it’s one of the species caught as whitebait. Threatened by migration barriers, deforestation and poor stream health.
