Goatfish - Āhuruhuru
Upeneichtys Lineatus

Goatfish, found in New Zealand and Eastern Australia, inhabit rocky reefs at depths of 5-60m. They forage in schools, using barbels beneath their chin to sense prey buried in sand. During breeding season, males change to a striking blue hue to attract females and establish territories. They can also flash brilliant red, helping cleaner fish spot and remove parasites. Their unique behaviours make goatfish fascinating to observe, especially in the vibrant underwater ecosystems they call home.
