Blue Cod - Rāwaru
Parapercis colias

Blue cod are bottom-dwelling predators found only in New Zealand, common in southern waters down to 150 m. They eat crustaceans, small fish, kina, worms, and shellfish. They can change sex from female to male, with males growing up to 60 cm and defending large territories. Curious and bold, they often approach divers. Blue cod range in colour from blue-green to blotchy brown and have strong anal fin tips to help them rest on the seafloor.
