Orange roughy
Hoplostethus atlanticus

The orange roughy, also called red roughy or deep sea perch, is a vibrantly colored fish found off New Zealand's coast, ranging from 20-50 cm. Living at depths of up to 1500m, they rely on a lateral line organ to sense their surroundings. Orange roughy can live up to 200 years, but their slow maturation makes them vulnerable. This, combined with deep-trawl fishing, has led to threatened populations, particularly in New Zealand.
