About the event
Bring the whole whānau and explore the waters of Waitapu during a drift snorkel and community day activities. Workshops and demos from various groups will include a session from DOC on whitebaiting rules, kōrero tuku iho shared from whānau of mohua, Macroinvertebrate (fancy name for bugs) ID, tuna hinaki, 'check clean, dry' and pest weed ID and elimination strategies.
Tasman Bay Guardians (TBG) will be running an Experiencing Marine Reserves (EMR) community guided drift snorkel during this event. An experienced snorkel guide and all the necessary equipment will be provided for free!
- Meet us at the TBG registration tent at the time slot you chose (it will be 9am, 10am, 11am or 12pm) on this Eventbrite site (Tickets were emailed to you after you registered. No need to print ticket).
- We will then fit you for gear and match you up with a friendly snorkel guide. You may bring your own gear however, NO full face masks please, for safety reasons. We provide snorkel, mask, fins, wetsuits, boogie boards and fish ID charts.
- You'll have a safety briefing before you try out your gear in the shallows and explore the water with your guide and group for up to 20 minutes.
This event is a collaboration with Manawhenua Ki Mohua, Department of Conservation and Check, Clean, Dry.
No experience required. Ages 7+.

If traveling north on SH60 (Takaka-Collingwood Hwy) slow down and turn into the gravel parking lot on the left before crossing the Takaka river bridge. You will see traffic cones when approaching.
