Maunganui Bay Snorkel Day

Explore the waters of Maunganui Bay (Deep Water Cove), Learn about the rāhui and our native marine biodiversity - what belongs and what doesn't! You may spot many different species in the bay. Active recreation and fun learning for the whole whanau - safely connecting with the wai! 

Bring your own gear or get free hire of our mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuits. Recommended for everyone 8 years and up. All children under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Experienced guides and advanced safety procedures will be in place on the day.

When: Sunday 17th of March 2024, 7.30am - 2pm

Back-up date in case of adverse snorkelling conditions: Saturday 30th March 2024.

What: Snorkelling at Maunganui Bay (Deep Water Cove), BYO picnic lunch on the beach!

Where: We meet next to the Salt Air Office, located next to the maritime building on Paihia Wharf at 7.00am (off Marsden Road in Paihia) and by 7.10am at the latest. Everyone who needs equipment will be given masks/flippers/wetsuit for the day. Ferry leaves Paihia at 7.30am with a return time of approximately 1.45pm.

Parking: Free and paid parking is available in Paihia

What to bring: Togs, towel, sunhat, warm clothes, raincoat, water bottles, walking shoes, a picnic lunch.

Recommended for minimum age of 8 and up - all children under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult guardian.

Please note that the ferry ticket is non-refundable - and the trip will run rain or shine! Our snorkel location will be at Maunganui Bay – Dependent on the weather. If you are late and miss the ferry unfortunately there are no refunds. Please make sure to read the information sheet before registering.
